About Little Roots Pediatric Therapy
At Little Roots Pediatric Therapy, our focus is on making quality therapy accessible and community-driven. We proudly serve Halifax, Dartmouth, and surrounding areas through home-based pediatric occupational therapy, group programs, and province-wide virtual care—because learning happens everywhere, not just in a clinic room.
Grounded in compassion, guided by play, and strengthened through evidence-based care, our child-centred, family-focused approach supports children in building independence, confidence, and meaningful life skills. At our core, Little Roots exists to make a meaningful difference for families, with the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow strong roots and reach their brightest potential.
The Little Roots Difference
At Little Roots, we believe therapy should happen where real life happens — not just behind clinic walls. That’s why we don’t operate from a traditional therapy clinic. Instead, our therapists come directly to your home or meet your child in familiar community environments, making sessions more natural, comfortable, and relevant to the routines and spaces your child experiences every day. This approach removes the “clinical lab” feel and allows us to observe and support real-life challenges in authentic and meaningful ways.
Life is busy — getting kids ready, driving across the city, juggling after-school routines. Home-based therapy reduces stress for families, saves valuable time, and ensures sessions occur where they have the greatest impact.
In theme with favouring real life environments, we also offer a range of pediatric group therapy programs designed to build functional skills, confidence, peer interaction, problem-solving, and real-world competence in a supportive, community-like setting. Not only does group therapy effectively complement your child’s individual therapy goals, but it also offers practical benefits that individual sessions alone can’t replace — such as practicing skills with peers, navigating group dynamics, and learning through shared experiences. Group sessions provide and accessible form of care and a cost-effective way to receive high-quality therapeutic support led by licensed professionals.
Whether we’re working in your home, out in the community, or within a group program, Little Roots Pediatric Therapy is designed with families in mind — offering flexible, practical, and meaningful therapy that fits naturally into everyday life.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Does Your Process Work?
Every new family begins with a consultation, followed by a detailed assessment that guides individualized therapy goals and session plans. Therapy may take place in your home, virtually, or through group programs — all designed to meet your child’s needs in real-life environments.
What Funding and Resources are Available?

Are Group Therapy Programs Covered by Insurance?
Our group therapy programs are designed and led by licensed therapists using evidence-based interventions, functional activities, and measurable therapeutic outcomes. Many extended health benefit plans include coverage for paramedical services such as occupational therapy or physiotherapy.
For group sessions to be eligible, each child must complete an initial assessment with the appropriate clinician — a physiotherapist for physiotherapy groups and an occupational therapist for occupational therapy groups — along with a documented therapy plan prior to starting the program. If your child is already receiving therapy at Little Roots Pediatric Therapy, a new assessment is not required, as their existing therapist will share their goals and treatment plan with the group therapist.
Coverage varies by provider, so we recommend families confirm details and coverage directly with their insurer. Please note that extended health benefit plans do not reimburse missed or unattended sessions.
What Should I Ask my Insurance Provider to See if My Plan Covers Group Therapy?
Families can ask their insurance provider the following:
- Does my plan cover group occupational therapy or group physiotherapy sessions if my child has completed an initial assessment with a licensed therapist, and the group sessions are led by a therapist who is eligible under my paramedical benefits?
- Do you require anything specific or different from a standard private session receipt for group therapy sessions (such as specific service title or the date of initial assessment).
- Are there any annual limits, per-session caps, or maximums for coverage that differ from private sessions?
Every plan is different, but when your child has an assessment and individualized therapy plan completed by a qualified clinician at Little Roots Pediatric Therapy, and then attends a group program that aligns with their documented goals, services are more likely to meet insurer criteria.
Do You Offer Free Consultations?
Yes! We offer a complimentary introductory phone call to learn more about your child’s needs and answer any questions you may have. During this conversation, we’ll help determine which therapy approach is the best fit and outline what the next steps — such as an assessment or goal planning — could look like for your family.
Do I Need a Referral?
You do not need a medical referral to access services at Little Roots Pediatric Therapy. Families can contact us directly to begin the process. However, some insurance providers may require a physician’s referral in order to approve or reimburse therapy expenses — we recommend checking your specific plan to confirm what’s needed.
How Much Do Services Cost?

What Locations Do You Serve?
In-person therapy is available throughout Halifax and Dartmouth and the surrounding areas within a 30 km radius of downtown Halifax. Virtual care offered province-wide. Group program locations vary by activity and will be specified when before a group session becomes available for booking.
What Age Groups Do You Serve?
We support every age and every milestone from infancy through to 18 years. We adapt our treatment and therapy options to meet each individual childs needs.
What Payment Methods Do You Accept?
All sessions are booked and paid through the Jane App, with a credit or debit card stored securely on file for automatic payment after each session. Jane accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express (including Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit).
While private therapy is not covered by MSI in Nova Scotia, most of our services are covered by private insurance or employer health-benefit such as Blue Cross, Sunlife, or other funding programs.
Coverage amounts and annual limits vary by plan. Please check your coverage with your insurance provider. We do not offer direct billing but do provide you with all the information you need to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice or no-shows will be charged the full session fee, as these short-notice changes affect your therapist’s schedule and prevent other families from accessing available spots.
We recognize that true emergencies — such as severe weather, contagious illness, or other urgent situations — can happen, and these will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
